Update from Foster Parents: Carmela, along with 4 other hounds, was rescued from a puppy mill. She has made slow but steady progress in learning to trust humans. In many ways she is starting to behave like a "normal" basset: she enjoys walks (with a harness because she has a history of being a runner), cuddles with humans (on her own terms) and playing with her foster siblings. She is still a bit of a puppy so sometimes she picks the wrong things as toys. She still runs from you when you approach her on foot but she will crawl up in bed with you and fall asleep with her head on your chest. Children scare her (they move too fast!) but she isn't aggressive at all. Carmela would do best in a calm and laid back family. She will need a family that is patient and willing to let her warm up to them in her own time. She is house broken and crate trained. She is absolutely a sweet heart and looks forward to being adopted! Carmela is coming along! She is unsure and skittish around humans. Her ideal home is with an experienced, patient and calm family environment. Experienced basset hound owners with patience are required.
