Betsy was surrendered by her owner at the Garland Animal Shelter and was in pretty bad shape. She needed a number of procedures including a double mastectomy (pre-cancerous tumors) and heartworm treatment in addition to being spayed. When she arrived at her foster home in August 2012, she had so much water in her lungs that she wheezed with every breath and did not feel comfortable lying on her back. Regardless of her ailments and surgeries, Betsy has been playful and upbeat through it all. At no time did she mope around. After 6 months, Betsy has worked hard to get healthy for her forever home. She is a very cute girl. One ear looks like it was dipped in white paint. Part of her nose is pink, while the rest is black. She loves to play either by herself or with others. She is great at fetching, until she gets tired and decides she wants to just keep the ball to herself. Betsy loves to shake her toy animals, then throw them in the air and try to catch them. When it is time to sit on the couch, she snuggles up under your arm and gives you a soulful look. She does not give kisses, but she loves to be by your side. She will lie down next to whatever chair you are in. When she wants to be petted, she dips her head under your hand to help you get the message. At bedtime, she goes to her dog bed when given the command to go lie down and will stay put until morning. She walks nicely on a leash and is crate trained. She rides nicely in a car. She tends to be an alpha dog with other dogs, so will work best with a dog that is laid back. There are no cats where Betsy lives, but she had visited other homes that had cats without incident. Anyone who adopts Betsy will find themselves with a wonderful, devoted companion who will always be excited to see you and love you forever.
